A Step-by-step Guide to Makeup for Stage

When it comes to dance competitions, stage makeup plays a vital role in enhancing your performance and making your expressions pop under the bright lights. Applying makeup specifically for the stage requires a different approach than everyday makeup. In this blog post we will provide you with a step-by-step guide to create a stunning stage makeup look that will help you stand out and shine on the stage floor.

  1. Preparing the canvas:

Before applying stage makeup, it is crucial to start with a clean and moisturized face. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and follow up with a light moisturizer. Allow your skin to absorb the moisturizer before proceeding with the next step.

2. Creating a base (for Teen and Senior dancers):

The key to stage makeup is achieving a flawless complexion that withstands the intensity of stage lighting. Begin by applying a primer to even out skins texture and create a smooth base for makeup application. Next, choose a high coverage foundation that matches your skin tone and blend it evenly using a makeup sponge or brush.

3. Accentuating the Eyes:

For dance competitions and stage performances, the eyes deserve special attention.

Start by shaping and defining your eye brows using an eyebrow pencil or shadow. Opt for an eyeshadow palette that has been recommended by your choreographer. Apply a neutral shade on the eyelid as a base and then use darker shades in the crease and outer corner to create depth. Highlight the brow bone and inner corners with a light shimmery eyeshadow to make your eyes pop. Finish with a liquid or gel eyeliner to define your lash line and add a touch of drama with false lashes.

4. Add Warmth:

Apply a soft blush to the apples of the cheeks and brush upward toward temples to add warmth and a healthy glow. You can also use a highlighter on the high points of your face, such as the cheekbones, brow bone and the bridge of your nose, to catch the light and create dimension.

5. Define the Lips:

For dance competitions, its best to choose long lasting lip products that won't smudge or fade easily. Start by lining your lips with an lip liner that matches the chosen lip colour. Fill your lips with a lipstick by using a lipstick brush for more control.

6. Finishing Touches:

To ensure your stage makeup stays in tact throughout your performance, set it with a light dusting of translucent powder. This will help control shine and keep your makeup in place. Remember to blend well and remove any excess powder. Lastly apply a setting spray to lock in your makeup and provide extra longevity.

Conclusion:

Stage makeup requires careful planning and execution. Remember, practice makes perfect, so experiment with different techniques and products to find what works best for you.
